"Music expresses that which
cannot be put into words."
Victor Hugo
Music is a fundamental part of my life. I ran a music consultancy with business partner Dom, for 10 years, helping some of the world's most iconic brands soundtrack their shops. I own 1000s of vinyl and CD albums across the music spectrum. Below is a tiny fraction of my favourite albums and my some Spotify compliations
No one spans eras and genres like Miles Davis, so talented and so flawed, love it!! The 70s is my favourite Miles era of heavy funk rock jazz, but he has so many truly classic albums https://open.spotify.com/album/4ORrWT9p5FH1jhTCATKEcj
Ernie Barnes's iconic artwork which I used to own a copy of but lost somewhere along the way. Must get that picture again. Also get Trouble Man and What's Goin' On deluxe editions https://open.spotify.com/album/28nUWsyczStUhYKXTY1IoW
British heavy rock live in the US in the early 80s. Owned most of their albums growing up, including Phenomenon, Obsession and No Place to Run. Buy the vinyl for better track ordering.
Southern Rock boogie that I loved on first listening in the very early 80s, they have a handful of really good albums, this is the pick of them https://open.spotify.com/album/3JLNft8uUVcQLxB8tKX3gg
Cantaloupe Island - we named our business after this track - this is one of his less celebrated albums but I love the cover and the tracks https://open.spotify.com/album/6uxqHM6i0as9PVB5S0TcUP
The Godfather of Soul having a picnic for one, Like Miles Davis, I own everything I possibly can from the hardest working man in showbusiness https://open.spotify.com/album/7xlfdwVcoxzv4QDLbCxYvx
1971, Vietnam, race riots and the American Dream in this era defining acid drenched rock of the highest order plus one of the definitive guitar solos in the 10 minute title track https://open.spotify.com/album/5p9GTYAPSgc5C1ck9ZbnMk
If Funkadelic then Parliament has to be. If acid rock why not acid funk? Loose, bubbly, soulful and very very funky https://open.spotify.com/album/658zJVrLYgMe6bUUJhBXmJ
My favourite Floyd album, no doubt, From the artwork to the production to the songwriting and music. Dark Side of The Moon a bigger seller but a distant 2nd for me https://open.spotify.com/album/6uvBKDGlJAYLH5Vy6RQVsc
I was 17 when this came out, smooth but British jazz funk at its finest https://open.spotify.com/album/5TTXVCaXtdie8SehZ7R4Sa
THE voice, THE end https://open.spotify.com/album/1aJEGozkrvANT0vJ7AmeWG
Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Strange Kind if Woman, Child in Time, saw them at the BBC in 2018, they still rock hard https://open.spotify.com/album/5dheIlcMhUWRnYTCz1Xexn
Not released for years after the movie due to copyright. Vangelis's finest hour, emotional https://open.spotify.com/album/6NkuCdMz5tGmHbOXAWbtCW
This encapsulates its era perfectly with a VA soundtrack that still sounds current https://open.spotify.com/playlist/54ItkWWY14s0sakC7gRH9B
Crosby, Sinatra, Satchmo and Grace Kelly. Who wants to be a Millionaire? https://open.spotify.com/album/6bV6aP0K7VIGyOr7e39wSE
Of course - I can still remember my father coming home with this new album tucked under his arm, he loved the music but he would admit he wasn't much of a dancer!
A collection from the original tv series with a vast array of exotic instruments, unique and funky https://open.spotify.com/album/3y8peU54xw4RwuqcRDYdd9
A collection of the maestro's finest Italian movie soundtracks, standout for me is the 9 minutes Come Maddalena https://open.spotify.com/playlist/22ULBN7dN5uQhHiDnS0WZF
